[08:25:31] The repo is more like my ongoing research & ideas than a proper complete implementation [08:26:01] I've figured out what I want the language to be, but don't have the energy to work on it much [08:26:51] I really don't want to do another rewrite but I feel like I've painted myself into a corner somewhat with this codebase [08:28:43] Oh, how so? What did you write the compiler in? [08:30:29] I ask in part because I have a programming language stewing somewhere inside of me. It'll be the ugliest thing ever invented if I do actually create it, and for some reason I want to base it off of ColorForth to experience building a toolchain up from a very barebones basis. I just may hit a brick wall when it comes to obtaining a decent color palette with CF; if the guy behind Temple OS couldn't make a decent 32-bit [08:30:29] graphics driver that would work on a generic X86_64/AMD64, then I don't think I stand a chance. [08:30:39] But I might stand a chance at maybe doing something. [08:31:04] Just depends on what I can aggregate once I successfully make and confirm read/write ability on my ColorForth compute stick. [08:31:34] Worst comes to worst, I'm sure I could get Rufus to transfer it to a USB stick, and I could just put that in as a bootdisk for my Pentium 4. [08:32:44] I guess this ain't the place to discuss building up one's computing infrastructure, but I wanna get my P3 and P4 on a darknet running Win 98 and XP, respectively, at the highest possible patch level for each. I have no idea how I'm gonna get those patches, nor even an installation disk for 98 with a working keycode. [08:33:11] Frustrating, because I have lots of ideas for ways to reuse disks and old swap bays with those machines and turn them into far more than they were or could have been. [08:34:17] Frankly, I was gonna give the P3 to a fellow, but I stopped being friends with him before I could part with it, and then the part of me that wants to make my apartment vibrate irritatingly and hum like a jet plane already thought of a very specific use for it [08:34:45] Though 98 is gonna be a real nightmare if I can't find drivers for the old-ass parts in it. [08:34:59] Even with XP, I guess, since I don't wanna touch the Internet with it if I can help it. [08:35:25] granted, it's just going to play a few games that only seem to cooperate with XP. I guess I could do the same with the 7 machine, but the margins there are a touch thinner. [08:38:58] MrBusiness: The compiler is written in Haskell, which I feel was a good choice, but there are some unplanned/organic bits of the architecture that are hard to change now, but which I need to change to make progress [08:40:52] This or #proglangdesign would be a good place to discuss your language project if you do go down that road [08:41:11] It saddens me that people don't collaborate on languages more, though [08:41:19] I mean, I'm a total hypocrite ;) [08:41:41] I chose to write Kitten instead of contributing to Factor [08:42:21] Mainly because I wanted to make the "postfix ML" to Factor's "postfix Smalltalk/CLOS" [09:08:43] Yes, Haskell is doubtlessly a sound choice for implementing a compiler. I do not, myself, know Haskell, but I know enough about pure FP to know that it's the king of pure FP languages thus far. [09:09:03] And that knowledge of it will change the way that I write programs, which I also believe.
