[18:24:32] I'm trying out Factor on Mac OS using the binary dmg, and it works great to click on the .app inside the volume. However, it doesn't work after I copy it over to /Applications. It seems to require the contents of the surrounding 'factor/' directory. Any others on Macs care to share how they tend to install Factor so that it can be opened from Spotlight? [18:29:30] * NB0X is now known as NB0X-QRT [18:39:47] Maybe symlink from applications to the .dmg? [18:41:33] That worked! Thanks :) [18:43:46] Plot twist: I still can't run Factor.app from Spotlight. Running `open -a Factor.app` from the commandline works fine. [18:44:06] I guess Spotlight doesn't like symlinks. [18:44:17] Huh, strange [18:44:50] What about dragging the whole .dmg into Applications? [18:45:35] No, that wouldn't work. At best it would open the zip file and mount the new disk image as a new volume, or something. [18:46:53] Hrm.... That's frustrating. I don't have a Mac handy to test, so at best I can speculate for now [18:47:02] * yumaikas defers to other advice [18:57:05] * delvinj [delvinj!~Miranda@c-73-164-9-150.hsd1.mn.comcast.net] has quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds). [20:05:08] Oh wait, you're going from the dmg. One sec. [20:06:59] Hmm. I still can't repro. [20:07:15] OH!! [20:07:23] Nope, I can. [20:07:51] erg: There's not a great fix for this; we could embed all the stuff inside the `.app`, but then it won't be obvious where to find the source code. [20:08:10] I think having a background image that makes it clear that you have to drag the entire folder is probably the right course of action. That's roughly what DrRacket does. [20:08:37] (Or just writing an installer; Factor already has tar libraries, and it'd be kind of fun to make a Factor installer in Factor.) [22:04:14] Ok, I can find it on Spotlight now. I just had to open it from Finder a couple of times to train it for some reason. [22:12:52] Are the sources for the website on GitHub? [22:17:55] akkartik: Yes, if you copy the entire folder to /Applications, not just the .app, it will work. [22:18:30] And yes, sources are at github.com/factor/factor, but they're also distributed in the dmg. That's what's in the folder alongside the app. [23:03:02] * NB0X [NB0X!~discrttm@unaffiliated/discrttm] has quit (Quit: Goodbye).
